The "WOW" factor
Hello Again!!
Today's blog will be about Design.
What characteristic about a piece of clothing, a bracelet or a room, makes you say "WOW"?
The "WOW" factor goes beyond "pretty". We've all seen many pretty things that are forgettable. When a piece has the "WOW" factor, it has something else...it has "IT", that unknown elusive quality used to describe what we can't describe, but can always feel. When we say that a woman has "something" or "IT", we are drawn to her, can feel her energy, but we can't really explain it. So it is in design.
Design is the visual aspect of a story. It communicates without words, through colors, lines, textures and the rest of the elements. Successful design is insidious because it draws you in without your awareness. It plays, not only with your aesthetic sense, but with your emotions.
When I'm creating, I love to explore the power play between opposites...heavy and light, dark and clear, cold and hot, modern and vintage.
Opposites relate to what we all are: complex and contradictory. It goes beyond pleasing to the realm of mysterious.
When in the conceptual phase of a project, I like to mix words to see what resonates with what I'm trying to communicate. Right now, I'm working on a jewelry line where the concept is INDUSTRIAL and EARTHY.
The idea, is to inject a little contradiction, a little mystery. Design has to be vibrant, it needs to have personality.
Today, I invite you to flirt with contradiction, in life and art.
